Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
